RESUMO

Idiopathic short stature (ISS) is a common childhood condition with largely unknown underlying causes. Recent research highlights the role of circulating exosomes in the pathogenesis of various disorders, but their connection to ISS remains unexplored. In the experiments, human chondrocytes are cocultured with plasma exosomes from ISS patients, leading to impaired chondrocyte growth and bone formation. Elevated levels of a specific long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), ISSRL, are identified as a distinguishing factor in ISS, boasting high specificity and sensitivity. Silencing ISSRL in ISS plasma exosomes reverses the inhibition of chondrocyte proliferation and bone formation. Conversely, overexpression of ISSRL in chondrocytes impedes their growth and bone formation, revealing its mechanism of action through the miR-877-3p/GZMB axis. Subsequently, exosomes (CT-Exo-siISSRL-oeGH) with precise cartilage-targeting abilities are engineered, loaded with customized siRNA for ISSRL and growth hormone. This innovative approach offers a therapeutic strategy to address ISS by rectifying abnormal non-coding RNA expression in growth plate cartilage and delivering growth hormone with precision to promote bone growth. This research provides valuable insights into ISS diagnosis and treatment, highlighting the potential of engineered exosomes.

The nuclear pore complex (NPC) has multiple functions beyond the nucleo-cytoplasmic transport of large molecules. Subnuclear compartmentalization of chromatin is critical for gene expression in animals and yeast. However, the mechanism by which the NPC regulates gene expression is poorly understood in plants. Here we report that the Y-complex (Nup107-160 complex, a subcomplex of the NPC) self-maintains its nucleoporin homeostasis and modulates FLOWERING LOCUS C (FLC) transcription via changing histone modifications at this locus. We show that Y-complex nucleoporins are intimately associated with FLC chromatin through their interactions with histone H2A at the nuclear membrane. Fluorescence in situ hybridization assays revealed that Nup96, a Y-complex nucleoporin, enhances FLC positioning at the nuclear periphery. Nup96 interacted with HISTONE DEACETYLASE 6 (HDA6), a key repressor of FLC expression via histone modification, at the nuclear membrane to attenuate HDA6-catalyzed deposition at the FLC locus and change histone modifications. Moreover, we demonstrate that Y-complex nucleoporins interact with RNA polymerase II to increase its occupancy at the FLC locus, facilitating transcription. Collectively, our findings identify an attractive mechanism for the Y-complex in regulating FLC expression via tethering the locus at the nuclear periphery and altering its histone modification.

Succinate is a vital signaling metabolite produced by the host and gut microbiota. Succinate has been shown to regulate host metabolic homeostasis and inhibit obesity-associated inflammation in macrophages by engaging its cognate receptor, SUCNR1. However, the contribution of the succinate-SUCNR1 axis to intestinal barrier dysfunction in obesity remains unclear. In the present study, we explored the effects of succinate-SUCNR1 signaling on high-fat diet (HFD)-induced intestinal barrier dysfunction. Using a SUCNR1-deficient mouse model under HFD feeding conditions, we identified the effects of succinate-SUCNR1 axis on obesity-associated intestinal barrier impairment. Our results showed that HFD administration decreased goblet cell numbers and mucus production, promoted intestinal pro-inflammatory responses, induced gut microbiota composition imbalance, increased intestinal permeability, and caused mucosal barrier dysfunction. Dietary succinate supplementation was sufficient to activate a type 2 immune response, trigger the differentiation of barrier-promoting goblet cells, suppress intestinal inflammation, restore HFD-induced mucosal barrier impairment and intestinal dysbiosis, and eventually exert anti-obesity effects. However, SUNNR1-deficient mice failed to improve the intestinal barrier function and metabolic phenotype in HFD mice. Our data indicate the protective role of the succinate-SUCNR1 axis in HFD-induced intestinal barrier dysfunction.

Most of the existing epidemiological studies have investigated adverse health effects of multiple air pollutants for a limited number of cities, thus the evidence of the health impacts is limited and it is challenging to compare these results because of different modeling approaches and potential publication bias. In this paper, we expand the number of Canadian cities, with the use of the most recent available health data. A multi-pollutant model in a case-crossover design is used to investigate the short-term impacts of air pollution on various health outcomes in 47 Canadian main cities, comparing three age groups (all-age, senior (age 66+), non-senior). The main findings are that a 14 ppb increase of O3 was associated with a 0.17%-2.78% (0.62%-1.46%) increase in the odds of all-age respiratory mortality (hospitalization). A 12.8 ppb increase of NO2 was associated with a 0.57%-1.47% (0.68%-1.86%) increase in the odds of all-age (non-senior) respiratory hospitalization. A 7.6 µgm-3 increase of PM2.5 was associated with a 0.19%-0.69% (0.33%-1.1%) increase in the odds of all-age (non-senior) respiratory hospitalization.

Succinate is produced by both the host and microbiota with pleiotropic functions in the modulation of intestinal inflammation and metabolic homeostasis, but the mechanisms remain elusive. This study aimed to determine whether dietary succinate influences the intestinal inflammatory response and to analyze the possible mechanisms by which succinate regulates enterohepatic metabolism. Sixteen growing barrows were randomly assigned to two groups, fed with a basal diet that consisted of a typical commercial diet or fed with a basal diet supplemented with 1% sodium succinate. Our data showed that dietary succinate activated the expression of succinate receptor 1 (SUCNR1) and increased the concentrations of pro-inflammatory cytokines in the intestine. Dietary succinate inhibited the expression levels of the ileal Farnesol X receptor (FXR) and its target genes, promoted hepatic bile acid secretion, and altered the bile acid metabolic profile. Then, we demonstrated that the pro-inflammatory cytokines triggered by succinate disrupted the ability of bile acids to activate FXR and fibroblast growth factor 19. Furthermore, dietary succinate reduced the abundance of bile-salt hydrolase enriched bacteria in the ileum. Taken together, dietary succinate activated the pro-inflammatory response via SUCNR1 in the intestine, and the pro-inflammatory cytokines induced by succinate blocked the activation of FXR and its target genes and disturbed bile acid enterohepatic circulation.

In order to make better use of the two local dominant plant resources of Ginkgo biloba and Zingiber officinale from Yongzhou in Hunan province, the in vitro neuroprotective and antioxidant activities of extracts from the G. biloba leaf and Z. officinale rhizome, and the correlation between these two kinds of activities, were analyzed. The in vivo effects of these two plant extracts on aged mice blood physiology and central neuron cell activity were then determined after continuous gavage with the best polarity part at different concentrations (2, 4, 8 mg/ml). The results showed that the cell survival rate and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity of the induced injury central neurons increased, although the malondialdehyde (MDA) content decreased gradually with the extract concentrations increasing in a certain range. Different polarity parts performed differently, even though they had the same concentration, with G. biloba always performing better than the Z. officinale rhizome at the same concentration and polarity. The order of G. biloba extract from superior to inferior was ethanol, ethyl acetate, n-butanol, chloroform, water, and petroleum ether (except that the petroleum ether part performed slightly better than the water part at 0.4 and 0.5 mg/ml), while the order of Z. officinale rhizome extract from superior to inferior was ethanol, chloroform, n-butanol, ethyl acetate, water, and petroleum ether. These two plant extracts demonstrated good in vitro effect against oxygen free radicals; the scavenging rate of superoxide free radicals had a significant positive correlation with the cell survival rate. The in vivo central nerve cell activity and SOD, glutathione peroxidase (GSH-PX) activity in aged mice blood serum increased while the MDA content decreased with treatment with these two extracts (p < 0.05). There were no significant changes in the number of leukocytes, lymphocytes, red blood cells, hemoglobin content, blood urine nitrogen, uric acid, creatinine, and the enzyme activity of glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (GOT) and glutamic pyruvic transaminase (GPT) (p > 0.05). G. biloba had a better in vivo effect than Z. officinale rhizome even though their concentration and polarity part were same. These results could provide some references for better development of these two plant extracts from Yongzhou in the field of neuroprotection.

BACKGROUND: Studies on the extent to which long-term exposure to ambient particulate matter (PM) with aerodynamic diameter ≤2.5µm (PM2.5) contributes to adult mortality in India are few, despite over 99% of Indians being exposed to levels that the World Health Organization (WHO) considers unsafe. OBJECTIVE: We conducted a retrospective cohort study within the Million Death Study (MDS) to provide the first-ever quantification of national mortality from exposure to PM2.5 in India from 1999 to 2014. METHODS: We calculated relative risks (RRs) by linking a total of ten 3-y intervals of satellite-based estimated PM2.5 exposure to deaths 3 to 5 y later in over 7,400 small villages or urban blocks covering a total population of 6.8 million. We applied using a model-based geostatistical model, adjusted for individual age, sex, and year of death; smoking prevalence, rural/urban residency, area-level female illiteracy, languages, and spatial clustering and unit-level variation. RESULTS: PM2.5 exposure levels increased from 1999 to 2014, particularly in central and eastern India. Among 212,573 deaths at ages 15-69 y, after spatial adjustment, we found a significant RR of 1.09 [95% credible interval (CI): 1.04, 1.14] for stroke deaths per 10-µg/m3 increase in PM2.5 exposure, but no significant excess for deaths from chronic respiratory disease and ischemic heart disease (IHD), all nonaccidental causes, and total mortality (after excluding stroke). Spatial adjustment attenuated the RRs for chronic respiratory disease and IHD but raised those for stroke. The RRs were consistent in various sensitivity analyses with spatial adjustment, including stratifying by levels of solid fuel exposure, by sex, and by age group, addition of climatic variables, and in supplementary case-control analyses using injury deaths as controls. DISCUSSION: Direct epidemiological measurements, despite inherent limitations, yielded associations between mortality and long-term PM2.5 inconsistent with those reported in earlier models used by the WHO to derive estimates of PM2.5 mortality in India. The modest RRs in our study are consistent with near or null mortality effects. They suggest suitable caution in estimating deaths from PM2.5 exposure based on MDS results and even more caution in extrapolating model-based associations of risk derived mostly from high-income countries to India. https://doi.org/10.1289/EHP9538.

Short-chain fatty acids (SCFA) can regulate appetite by stimulating the secretion of satiety hormones. However, the impact of short-chain fatty acid propionate on the release of gut satiety hormones and appetite regulation in pigs is not completely understood. In this study, 16 pigs were infused with saline or sodium propionate through a fistula in the caecum during a 28-day experimental period. We characterized the effects of propionate administration on peptide YY (PYY) and glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) secretion from colonic tissue, and investigated the role of propionate infusion on the expression of appetite-related genes in the colon and hypothalamus. Further, the direct impact of propionate administration on the expression of orexigenic neuropeptide agouti-related protein (AgRP) in hypothalamic N38 cells was also examined. The results showed that intra-cecal infusion of propionate reduced the short-term feed intake (P < 0.05) but not the long-term feed intake in pigs (P > 0.05). Propionate administration stimulated PYY and GLP-1 release from colon tissue in vivo and ex vivo (P < 0.05). It also upregulated PYY expression in the colonic mucosa (P < 0.05). Meanwhile, the GLP-1 and PYY levels in the blood were increased after intra-cecal infusion of propionate at d 28 (P < 0.05). Additionally, intra-cecal infusion of propionate upregulated the mRNA and protein expression of free fatty acid receptor 2/3 (FFAR2/FFAR3) in the colonic mucosa (P < 0.05). Propionate infusion also downregulated the orexigenic AgRP mRNA expression (P < 0.05) and upregulated the anorexigenic cocaine-and amphetamine-regulated transcript (CART) mRNA expression (P = 0.09) in the hypothalamus. Moreover, propionate administration directly downregulated AgRP expression in hypothalamic N38 cells in a dose-dependent manner (P < 0.05). Collectively, these findings demonstrated that cecal propionate stimulated colonic secretion of satiety hormones and suppressed appetite to reduce the short-term feed intake in pigs. This study highlights that microbial-derived propionate exerts an important role in regulating the physical functions of the host.

As a microbial tryptophan metabolite, indole-3-carboxaldehyde (ICA) has been suggested to confer benefits to host, such as regulation of intestinal barrier function. This study aimed to elucidate the role of ICA in modulating intestinal homeostasis via using a weaned pig model. Twenty-four weaned piglets were randomly allocated into three groups: the control group (a basal diet), ICA100 group (the basal diet supplemented with 100 mg/kg ICA), and ICA200 group (the basal diet supplemented with 200 mg/kg ICA). The experiment lasted 14 d, and pigs from the control and ICA100 groups were slaughtered. The results showed no significant differences in the average daily gain (ADG) and average daily feed intake (ADFI) among the three groups (P > 0.05). However, the ICA100 group had a lower feed to gain ratio (F:G) (P < 0.05). Dietary ICA supplementation did not alter the villus height, crypt depth, and villus height/crypt depth ratio in the small intestine, and did not change the intestinal permeability and antioxidant parameters (P > 0.05). Intriguingly, ICA treatment significantly increased the jejunal, ileal and colonic indexes in piglets (P < 0.05). Besides, the expression of proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) in the intestine was up-regulated by ICA treatment. Moreover, in vitro experiments demonstrated that 15 µM ICA significantly accelerated the proliferation activity of IPEC-J2 cells, and increased the expression of the ICA receptor aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR) and the proliferation markers PCNA and Cyclin D1 (P < 0.05). In addition, dietary ICA supplementation modulated the intestinal flora, increasing the richness estimators and diversity index, decreasing the abundances of phylum Fibrobacterota and genera Alloprevotella, Prevotella, and Parabacteroides, and enriching the abundance of genera Butyrivibrio. These data reveal a beneficial role for the microbial metabolite ICA on intestinal epithelial proliferation, rather than intestinal barrier function, in weaned piglets.

Importance: The incidence of infection during SARS-CoV-2 viral waves, the factors associated with infection, and the durability of antibody responses to infection among Canadian adults remain undocumented. Objective: To assess the cumulative incidence of SARS-CoV-2 infection during the first 2 viral waves in Canada by measuring seropositivity among adults. Design, Setting, and Participants: The Action to Beat Coronavirus study conducted 2 rounds of an online survey about COVID-19 experience and analyzed immunoglobulin G levels based on participant-collected dried blood spots (DBS) to assess the cumulative incidence of SARS-CoV-2 infection during the first and second viral waves in Canada. A sample of 19 994 Canadian adults (aged ≥18 years) was recruited from established members of the Angus Reid Forum, a public polling organization. The study comprised 2 phases (phase 1 from May 1 to September 30, 2020, and phase 2 from December 1, 2020, to March 31, 2021) that generally corresponded to the first (April 1 to July 31, 2020) and second (October 1, 2020, to March 1, 2021) viral waves. Main Outcomes and Measures: SARS-CoV-2 immunoglobulin G seropositivity (using a chemiluminescence assay) by major geographic and demographic variables and correlation with COVID-19 symptom reporting. Results: Among 19 994 adults who completed the online questionnaire in phase 1, the mean (SD) age was 50.9 (15.4) years, and 10 522 participants (51.9%) were female; 2948 participants (14.5%) had self-identified racial and ethnic minority group status, and 1578 participants (8.2%) were self-identified Indigenous Canadians. Among participants in phase 1, 8967 had DBS testing. In phase 2, 14 621 adults completed online questionnaires, and 7102 of those had DBS testing. Of 19 994 adults who completed the online survey in phase 1, fewer had an educational level of some college or less (4747 individuals [33.1%]) compared with the general population in Canada (45.0%). Survey respondents were otherwise representative of the general population, including in prevalence of known risk factors associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection. The cumulative incidence of SARS-CoV-2 infection among unvaccinated adults increased from 1.9% in phase 1 to 6.5% in phase 2. The seropositivity pattern was demographically and geographically heterogeneous during phase 1 but more homogeneous by phase 2 (with a cumulative incidence ranging from 6.4% to 7.0% in most regions). The exception was the Atlantic region, in which cumulative incidence reached only 3.3% (odds ratio [OR] vs Ontario, 0.46; 95% CI, 0.21-1.02). A total of 47 of 188 adults (25.3%) reporting COVID-19 symptoms during phase 2 were seropositive, and the OR of seropositivity for COVID-19 symptoms was 6.15 (95% CI, 2.02-18.69). In phase 2, 94 of 444 seropositive adults (22.2%) reported having no symptoms. Of 134 seropositive adults in phase 1 who were retested in phase 2, 111 individuals (81.8%) remained seropositive. Participants who had a history of diabetes (OR, 0.58; 95% CI, 0.38-0.90) had lower odds of having detectable antibodies in phase 2. Conclusions and Relevance: The Action to Beat Coronavirus study found that the incidence of SARS-CoV-2 infection in Canada was modest until March 2021, and this incidence was lower than the levels of population immunity required to substantially reduce transmission of the virus. Ongoing vaccination efforts remain central to reducing viral transmission and mortality. Assessment of future infection-induced and vaccine-induced immunity is practicable through the use of serial online surveys and participant-collected DBS.

To address the frequent emergence of ecological problems, ecology has intersected with various disciplines. From the perspective of linguistic ecology, ecological literacy is an important concept that combines the subjects of ecology and linguistics. It not only discusses ecological issues, but also establishes a linguistic framework. Here, we constructed a quantitative method of assessing ecological literacy from the perspective of linguistic ecology. Ecological literacy was divided into five parts: ecological knowledge literacy, ecological awareness literacy, ecological ethics literacy, ecological emotional literacy, and ecological behavioral literacy. Each of these was set with four quantitative indicators that were evaluated through eight questions. A case study was conducted to investigate the ecological literacy of the inhabitants of Guiyang City, one of China's top ten ecologically advanced cities. The results showed that the proposed assessment method was an effective way to evaluate the level of ecological literacy comprehensively. In the case analysis, the overall ecological literacy level of Guiyang inhabitants was relatively good, and the levels of the five specific dimensions of them in descending order were as follows: ecological ethics literacy, ecological emotional literacy, ecological awareness literacy, ecological knowledge literacy, and ecological behavioral literacy. The results of this study are conducive to the production of targeted ways to improve the level of ecological literacy for sustainable development.

The study of the impacts of air pollution on COVID-19 has gained increasing attention. However, most of the existing studies are based on a single country, with a high degree of variation in the results reported in different papers. We attempt to inform the debate about the long-term effects of air pollution on COVID-19 by conducting a multi-country analysis using a spatial ecological design, including Canada, Italy, England and the United States. The model allows the residual spatial autocorrelation after accounting for covariates. It is concluded that the effects of PM2.5 and NO2 are inconsistent across countries. Specifically, NO2 was not found to be an important factor affecting COVID-19 infection, while a large effect for PM2.5 in the US is not found in the other three countries. The Population Attributable Fraction for COVID-19 incidence ranges from 3.4% in Canada to 45.9% in Italy, although with considerable uncertainty in these estimates.

Landsenses ecology has been widely applied in research into sustainable consciousness and behavior and the notion of landsense creation realizes the unity of the macro physical senses and micro psychological perceptions. However, a great deal of current research about landsenses ecology has concentrated on the dimension of the physical senses, while there have been relatively few studies on the dimension of its psychological perception. This paper begins by clarifying the concept of self and explaining out that the psychological perception mechanism of landsense creation represents a process of guiding people to know themselves and realize their ecological self. It then utilizes the example of low-carbon discourse to explore the factors contributing to the resonance of ecological self-vision. Our results show that the perceived self-efficacy, environmental concern and environmental knowledge triggered by ecological discourse are the main factors contributing to the resonance of sustainable vision, thus clarifying the indicators of landsenses ecology at the level of psychological perception. RESUMO

Many countries have enforced social distancing to stop the spread of COVID-19. Within countries, although the measures taken by governments are similar, the incidence rate varies among areas (e.g., counties, cities). One potential explanation is that people in some areas are more vulnerable to the coronavirus disease because of their worsened health conditions caused by long-term exposure to poor air quality. In this study, we investigate whether long-term exposure to air pollution increases the risk of COVID-19 infection in Germany. The results show that nitrogen dioxide (NO 2 ) is significantly associated with COVID-19 incidence, with a 1 µ g  m - 3 increase in long-term exposure to NO 2 increasing the COVID-19 incidence rate by 5.58% (95% credible interval [CI]: 3.35%, 7.86%). This result is consistent across various models. The analyses can be reproduced and updated routinely using public data sources and shared R code.

The nuclear pore complex profoundly affects the timing of flowering; however, the underlying mechanisms are poorly understood. Here, we report that Nucleoporin96 (Nup96) acts as a negative regulator of long-day photoperiodic flowering in Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana). Through multiple approaches, we identified the E3 ubiquitin ligase HIGH EXPRESSION OF OSMOTICALLY RESPONSIVE GENE1 (HOS1) and demonstrated its interaction in vivo with Nup96. Nup96 and HOS1 mainly localize and interact on the nuclear membrane. Loss of function of Nup96 leads to destruction of HOS1 proteins without a change in their mRNA abundance, which results in overaccumulation of the key activator of long-day photoperiodic flowering, CONSTANS (CO) proteins, as previously reported in hos1 mutants. Unexpectedly, mutation of HOS1 strikingly diminishes Nup96 protein level, suggesting that Nup96 and HOS1 are mutually stabilized and thus form a novel repressive module that regulates CO protein turnover. Therefore, the nup96 and hos1 single and nup96 hos1 double mutants have highly similar early-flowering phenotypes and overlapping transcriptome changes. Together, this study reveals a repression mechanism in which the Nup96-HOS1 repressive module gates the level of CO proteins and thereby prevents precocious flowering in long-day conditions.

The long-term health effects of air pollution are often estimated using a spatio-temporal ecological areal unit study, but this design leads to the following statistical challenges: (1) how to estimate spatially representative pollution concentrations for each areal unit; (2) how to allow for the uncertainty in these estimated concentrations when estimating their health effects; and (3) how to simultaneously estimate the joint effects of multiple correlated pollutants. This article proposes a novel 2-stage Bayesian hierarchical model for addressing these 3 challenges, with inference based on Markov chain Monte Carlo simulation. The first stage is a multivariate spatio-temporal fusion model for predicting areal level average concentrations of multiple pollutants from both monitored and modelled pollution data. The second stage is a spatio-temporal model for estimating the health impact of multiple correlated pollutants simultaneously, which accounts for the uncertainty in the estimated pollution concentrations. The novel methodology is motivated by a new study of the impact of both particulate matter and nitrogen dioxide concentrations on respiratory hospital admissions in Scotland between 2007 and 2011, and the results suggest that both pollutants exhibit substantial and independent health effects.

The long-term health effects of air pollution can be estimated using a spatio-temporal ecological study, where the disease data are counts of hospital admissions from populations in small areal units at yearly intervals. Spatially representative pollution concentrations for each areal unit are typically estimated by applying Kriging to data from a sparse monitoring network, or by computing averages over grid level concentrations from an atmospheric dispersion model. We propose a novel fusion model for estimating spatially aggregated pollution concentrations using both the modelled and monitored data, and relate these concentrations to respiratory disease in a new study in Scotland between 2007 and 2011.

In plants, multiple floral induced-pathways including photoperiod signaling, vernalization signaling, autonomous pathway, gibberellin signaling, and thermosensory signaling are well known to mediate signaling from different cues to confer flowering regulation. SUA41 (SUMO substrate 41) is a SUMO (Small ubiquitin modifier) substrate screened out in our laboratory. Previous reports indicate that the SUA41 gene is involved in autonomous pathway to regulate flowering time of Arabidopsis, but its mechanism remains to be elucidated. In this study, the spatiotemporal expression pattern for SUA41, responses of its mutant to environmental factors, and its regulation of mechanism of flowering time were investigated. The sua41 mutant flowered earlier than Col-0 at both normal temperature (22℃) and low temperature (16℃) under long day (LD) or short day (SD) conditions. In addition, the flowering times of sua41 had no significant difference between 22℃ and 16℃ conditions. Over-expression of SUA41 rescued the early flowering phenotype of the sua41 mutant. Expression of SUA41 was at similar levels in seedlings, roots, stems, leaves, flowers, or the samples at all developmental stages examined, suggesting that SUA41 is a constitutive expression gene. Expression of SUA41 mRNA was not responsive to GA treatment, but highly induced by low temperature and inhibited in fve and fca mutants defective in the thermosensory pathway. Compared with Col-0, the expression levels of FT and SOC1 increased, whereas the expression level of FLC mRNA decreased and CO expression was not significantly altered in the sua41 mutant. The results showed that the SUA41 gene plays a role in not only the autonomous pathway but also the thermosensory pathway to regulate flowering time of Arabidopsis.

The net photosynthetic rate (Pn) of Dolichomitriopsis diversiformis(Mitt.) was measured under controlled air temperature (Ta), plant water content (PWC) and irradiance (Photosynthetically Active Radiation, PAR) in laboratory. The results showed that Pn was closely related to PAR, Ta and PWC. The response curve of Pn to PAR was a right angle hyperbola, and the parameters were affected by Ta and PWC. The Pn reduction was great when PWC was low and Ta was high, or when PWC was high and Ta was low. The peak Pn (Pmax) was observed underweak light (PAR < 200 mumol.s-1.m-2) and relatively low (50%-80%) PWC. Under higher Ta, Pmax was higher, but decreased when Ta was higher than 25 degrees C. The PWC range within which Pmax occurred increased in accordance with the increase of PAR. When PAR was lower than 200 mumol.s-1.m-2, the Ta range within which Pmax occurred was relatively high (20-25 degrees C), and Pmax increased with the increase of PWC. When PWC was higher than 80%, Pmax decreased with the increase of PWC. The Ta range within which Pmax occurred decreased in accordance with the increase of PAR. Under moderate light (230 < PAR < 270 mumol.s-1.m-2), the sensitivity of Pn response to Ta and PWC was higher than that under higher or lower light. The Pn response to Ta and PWC was saddle-like, and its parameters were altered according to the variation in PAR.
